Max
takes Bronze at the Regional Junior Fencing Competition!
Street
Swords has its first medalist with Max Clyde taking
3rd place at the Junior Regional fencing competition
held at the Regional Fencing Centre in Durham on the
17th December! He only narrowly lost in his quarter
final fight by 1 hit!
Our
other Street Sword representative, James Wigglesworth
also performed well, beating some much more experienced
fencers on the day but missed getting into the quarter
finals, with difficult refereeing calls!
For
their first competition, Max and James fenced fantasticly,
putting into practice all the moves they have learnt!
They were even praised by international coach, Sutera
Ritrawe, who coaches at the Centre!
Max and James battle it out!

On
the last training training session at the Dolphin Centre,
Street Sword coach Nathan popped in and assisted with
the session! Certificates were handed out to those who
have acheived a level of skill and committment!
At
the end of November, the new intake of Street Sword
coaches who were involved in a Princes Trust get back
to work project, delivered a week long Go Fence programme
at Redhall Primary School in Darlington.
In
the first four days the coaches worked with two groups
of children each day showing the basics of Go Fencing!
On the final day the children took part in a fencing
team festival in the school hall. Eight teams comprising
of three fencers battled it out trying to score as many
victories as possible, sprited on by the possibility
of chocolate and certificates!
On
the 20th July, the project was awarded the London 2012
Inspire Mark from Charles Allen from LOCOG. (article)
Street
Swords in now working in partnership with Stocton Riverside
College and the Princes Trust working with those on
a City and Guilds course to get local people back into
work. On the 20th October, the Regional Development
Officer held a Go Fence leaders course at Skerne Park
Community Centre to train seven new leaders to use the
plastic version of fencing so they can coach in local
primary schools in Darlington.
