BRITISH
FENCING CENTRE - COME FENCING IN DURHAM
Fencing is one
of the fastest growing sports in the country and more people of all ages are
taking up this very interesting and exciting sport. Durham has been a focus for Fencers for many years and
facilitated by organisations such as Durham
Sporting Club has helped to create a “sporting pathway”, backed up by a
structure of top class coaching, physiotherapy and other sport science support.
This allows a fencer to progress from beginner, through training and
competition, to the elite level.
here’s how to do it:
Beginners – there
are a number of options depending on age.
1. Fencing courses in school. Six-week Fencing courses are already
available in a number of Durham Primary schools. If you would like Fencing in your school ask the head Teacher or
Head of PE or contact Kath Rochester, School Sports Co-ordinator. Tel: 0191
2. Join
the British Fencing Centre Durham
(BFCD). Beginners classes for
children 8-13 years are held on Saturday afternoons, 1:30 –3pm. The cost is £4:50 per session and all
equipment is provided. Head Coach is
Prof. Laszlo Jakab. For details on joining,
contact Carole Seheult c.seheult@btinternet.com,
or David Craig craigda@o2.co.uk MORE Centre Details

The BFCD’s provisional term dates 2005/06 are as follows:
Mon 5th September to Sat 10th December
2005. (14 weeks)
Mon 9th January to Sat 1st April 2006 (10
weeks)
Mon 24th April to Sat 1st July 2006 (12 weeks)
·
Normally
we would recommend options 1 or 2 for Beginners and suggest that most junior fencers
will need to attend the BFCD for at least one term before joining a club (see
below).
If
you have done a little bit of Fencing already you may feel ready to join a
Club. There are currently two Fencing
